Wack attack!!!!!!!!!!!!
11/09/09
Both Sat. and Sun were steady, with several double hookups and good action. Not to mention the ocean was perfect. However Monday morning was quite sloppy. The forecast was 2 to 4 ft, at least they got the 4 right. Under my estimation it was 3 to 4 going to 4 to 6, nearing small craft conditions. Since we beat it out to about 21 miles or so we fished with intensions to leave at about 1:00 o'clock. We kept steady and had good success until our witching hour. Then we decided to take one more pass over our hole, and chaos began. We marked really good bait and the fight was on. From 2:00 o'clock until way past time to leave it was getting down like I have not seen all year,at one time we had four kings in the boat flapping around, and had two on at the same time, I never got to eat my pack of crackers I opened at 1:55. I would like to say thanks to Chris E. of the fishing center for waiting for us to pack out our catch well after 7:00. It was dark and everybody was ready for a beer or twelve. The fishing is the best I've seen so far, come on down and let's wack'em!!
Steady at the Shark hole.........
11/04/09
As we deployed baits yesterday the long line went off before we could get the medium line in the rod holder. The rest of the day was steady and the seas became more calm as the day went on. Another great day in OIB. Fishing still has not exploded, but if you wish to limit out on mackerel in about two hours with three or so people then come on down and get you some! The eastern area of Long Bay seems to be holding the warmest temps, but don't rule out the Jungle area just yet. The weekend looks perfect, see you on the water.
fall fishing starting to fire..........
10/15/09
We have fished all over Long Bay this past week with limited success, until each afternoon with a tide change at the 90's. Double hookups were common and we rarely got a spread in the water. Boasting a few 30 pounders and a slew of teenagers and twentys. After this strong northly blow ( Wed,Thurs, and Fri.) the 65- 70 ft. depths should produce a great bite. Oh yeah, don't forget the 90's on the way home!

US Open a success...
10/04/09
We prefished Wed and Thurs. for the Open, and it paid off. We found a really good class of fish off to the west of OIB in about 70 ft. of water, so we decided to sink or swim in this area for the tourney. The morning was slick calm and bait was easily found at Shallotte Inlet. Running 32 knots straight to our hole we found that the secret was not so secret anymore. There were about twenty boats on our spot and the quality and quantity of the fish had changed from the prior days. Never the less we stuck it out for two and a half hours with little action and annoying rain,a move had to be made. After getting lines in we headed six miles to the east and found several fish real quick and then a king dumped a speedmaster with no problem. I knew that this was a good fish so we chased him a little as I cranked on the reel and moved to the bow of the boat. Sure enough it was a money fish. Weighing in at 30.3 lbs. our day was done and we raced to the scales. The final talley was our fish in 29th place out of 460 or so, not too bad. We'll be on the water this week getting ready for next weeks tourny. See ya at the Rumble in the Jungle.

Waiting for the fall....
09/22/09
Sorry that I have been busy with everything and neglecting my website, but the fall is coming and the fishing will be the best of the year through Jan. Here is a little surprise that I caught in 70 ft. of water. A 30.5 blackfin tuna, not far off the state record. Look for it in the Fisherman's Post. I'll keep ya'll informed, really good things are on the way! Capt. Tres

Strong summer fishing.......
06/29/09
Tony Hewitt came, saw and conquered. Then returned and we did it all over again. The kings were mainly caught at the Sherman, and the mahi and larger kings were caught about 17 miles offshore. --one of my favorite spots-- This is hopefully a great start to what should be a great year. Keep your fingers crossed.........

Fishing still strong at the 90's
06/15/09
Tony Hewitt and family got a good dose of Carolina fishing this morning. The main fish they were interested in was mahi. So we grabbed some bait just to the right as you head out of Shallotte inlet and headed to the best game in town recently, the 390/390. We set a spread of Pogeys and within two minutes a mahi was dancing across our stern. He gave a good fight for about twenty minutes or so and the deal was done, but not for long. We caught kings very steadily for the next two hours and headed home just in time to miss a storm coming across Holden Beach. That would have made it three days in a row for me being caught in a storm, thank goodness that didn't happen. We will be on the water again on Thursday, give us a shout on channel 11 or 6. Capt. Tres

390/390 the place to be.....
06/11/09
Thursday morning was about as perfect as you could ask for. The seas were a whopping 2 ft. with no wind, the bait was right at the sea buoy, and the fish were only 9 miles off shore. Bo and the fellas were ready for a show. The mahi and mackerel had no problem delivering hours of fun. The best thing about this story is that Bo is only 5 years old, and apparently is afraid of nothing. He played with Pogeys and was not shy about reeling in fish. A good time was had by all and Dad really enjoyed catching this mahi, which took the down rigger bait before I could even put it in the clip. A big blue swirl only fifteen feet behind the boat and it was on. Making several runs and five or so jumps, this mahi fought as good as it tasted....Summer fishing is well under way!
